Completed Kevlar© Kimono

by | Oct 29, 2015

The kimono was completed in April 2014, just in time to be exhibited in an exhibit at the Coconino Center for the Arts here in Flagstaff. The response was overwhelmingly positive, starting at the opening, through the final weeks of the exhibit.

Here’s a story from Cathy Gazda who was at the exhibit and had this experience:

“What a stunning piece! I love everything about it…especially, how you integrated the faces into the fabric. There were several people viewing the piece at the same time as I. After hearing me remark at the exquisiteness of the stitching and the whole concept, a man next to me asked if I’d read the artist statement (which I had) and so we talked about your work…he was truly amazed at what you’d created. A woman standing nearby, heard us conversing about the statement and the piece. She came over, looked at the piece, then read your statement. I was looking at the back of the Kimono, towards her…and noticed her eyes had filled with tears. I went around to the front and stood beside her, gently rubbing her back and together we took in your piece, in silence.”

If you have your own story about viewing this piece, please send me a message.

From here, I’m not sure where this piece will go. At the moment it’s in my living room. (It’s too hard to iron it, so it’s easier to just leave it hanging on the stand!) I’ve been invited to exhibit it in Tucson at a Paperworks exhibit next year, but in the meantime, would love to find other venues for it to be seen. If you have an idea, please let me know by visiting the Contact Page.

And now, onto the next project. I’ll keep posting here as the new work develops. Thanks again for your interest in this project.
